I have discovered RockBox! I own the Iriver H10 20gb mp3 player and have been suffering with their software for over 2 years now. I finally put my foot down and installed RockBox on it. RockBox is an open source firmware for mp3 players. The installation was quick and super easy. It even allows you to boot into your proprietary firmware if you want. It also moves all of your current mp3s over to the new system so you don't lose anything, or have to format. I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and am absolutely in love. When my H10 dies I will likely just buy another one and install RockBox, that's how good it is.

IRiver issues that RockBox improves:

  1. The ability to re-charge and play in my car.
  2. The ability to bookmark my spot and continue after a re-charge
  3. The ability to never crash
  4. The ability to never have to do a hard reset.
  5. The ability to pause/start without having to wake up the screen.
  6. The ability to plug in my IRiver and have it show up as a drive on my computer.
These are the things that I love so far and have only used it for 2 weeks. I'm excited to see what else is to come!
